TREx plastic recycling

On September 29th, we added 17 pounds of plastic to our total, to get us up to 512 pounds of plastic collected since last April 15th.  Well done!  October 6th brought in another great haul of plastic - 40 pounds!

October has a few extra sources of plastic to consider for your recycling - the plastic bags filled with "Halloween Treats, and Fun-sized Candy Bars," etc.  Those can definitely be added to your "clean, dry stretchy plastic."  A number of the individual candy bar wrappers are also "dry, stretchy, plastic," but the issue is having some of the yummy ingredients melting and sticking to the wrappers. If you add these to your collection, make sure they are CLEAN!  Thank you!

Our recycling gets taken to stores by volunteers, and the stores REALLY prefer to have the larger bags CLEAR, so they know for sure that someone didn't accidentally drop off their garbage rather than their plastic. Please help us know that your donations are clean plastic donations by using clear plastic bags whenever possible. Photo below shows clever uses of LARGE toilet paper packaging and other large plastic bags being stuffed with clear, dry stretchy plastic.  The Green Team thanks you, and our planet thanks you too!

September 22: Great job of bringing in clean, dry stretchy plastic! Just 5 more pounds next week and we will reach a total of 500 pounds before October. Great start! The Green Team thanks you and our planet thanks you too!

September 15: McLoughlin School is again registered for the TREX Plastic Recycling Challenge.  Since the end of last year's collection deadline in April, the school has already collected 479 pounds of plastic for a headstart on this year's challenge, including 30 pounds of clean, dry stretchy plastic brought in since school started this fall. Well done!  Bring in just 21 more pounds for September, and we'll be up to 500 pounds before October.  The Green Team thanks you and our planet thanks you too
