Oregon City School District is proud to recognize Alissa Sherman of John McLoughlin Elementary School as this year’s recipient of the district’s Lift and Lead Award, part of OCSD’s Strategic Plan Staff Awards.
The Lift and Lead Award recognizes staff members who help elevate others through compassion, encouragement, leadership and a deep commitment to creating a school community where every student feels they belong. Sherman’s recognition celebrates the positive impact she makes by supporting students, strengthening relationships and helping foster a culture in which people feel seen, valued and empowered.
Her work reflects the many ways staff members help students thrive beyond academics. By building trust, modeling care and supporting meaningful connections, Sherman contributes to an environment where students can feel secure, included and ready to learn.
The Lift and Lead Award aligns with Oregon City School District’s Strategic Plan priority of Robust Systems of Belonging & Well-Being. This area of the plan focuses on ensuring students experience a strong sense of belonging and have the social, emotional and practical support they need to be well, engaged and prepared for learning.

The purpose of this work is to create schools where every student knows they matter. When students have trusted adults, positive relationships and a welcoming learning environment, they are better positioned to participate fully in school, build confidence and reach their goals.
Sherman was among 10 Oregon City School District staff members recognized at Welcome Back Day for bringing the district’s Strategic Plan to life through their everyday work.
